Welcome to TheNewOrleans.ca, your dedicated platform for exploring the vibrant future of Orleans, Ontario!

At The New Orleans, we’re driven by a simple yet profound vision: to foster a more livable, sustainable, and connected community right here in our beloved corner of Ottawa. We believe that by thoughtfully reimagining our urban spaces, transportation networks, and land use policies, we can unlock Orleans’ full potential, moving towards a future that’s not just efficient, but genuinely enjoyable for everyone.
Our journey is inspired by the principles championed by grassroots community groups like Strong Towns Ottawa, Bike Ottawa, and my local community association in Convent Glen – Orleans Wood. TheNewOrleans.ca brings these vital conversations close to home, focusing specifically on the unique challenges and incredible opportunities within Orleans. We’re here to shine a light on local initiatives, analyze proposed developments, and advocate for changes that prioritize people over pavement, fostering a community where getting around doesn’t always require four wheels and a motor.
This site is a collaborative space, drawing on insights from experts across many domains, including urban planning, transportation engineering, and land use policy. We aim to translate complex urbanism concepts into accessible, engaging discussions, with a sprinkle of humour to lighten the mood – because let’s face it, policy discussions can get a bit dry without it! We’re committed to thorough research, fact-checking every claim, and presenting well-reasoned arguments to ensure our content is both informative and impactful.
We’re rooted for the long term in the Orleans community, and our commitment extends to active involvement with organizations dedicated to urban improvement. Drawing from affiliations with groups like the Convent Glen / Orleans Wood Community Association (working on important community initiative and the Orleans Corridor Secondary Plan), Bike Ottawa (making suburbs more bike-friendly), and Strong Towns Ottawa (improving places for people), we aim to bring a well-rounded and informed perspective to the table. Our goal is to contribute to a comprehensive strategy for Orleans that reduces car dependence, enhances walkability and cyclability, and promotes mixed-use, vibrant neighborhoods.
Join us as we explore how smart planning can transform Orleans into a more resilient, equitable, and enjoyable place to live, work, and play. Because in the grand scheme of things, a little less car tends to translate to a lot more community!
